Running my own business offering one-to-one coaching for small business owners and career professionals. Performing most aspects of small business administration, marketing and sales.

Customer services role including answering questions about invoices, investigating complaints and enquiries about black cab journeys. I was liaising with cab drivers, internal staff and CEOs. This was a demanding role with plenty of conflict and complex calculations to make.

Preparation for Oracle Training: Identifying participants, invitations, tracking attendance, analyzing and presenting feedback data, monitoring the set-up of training rooms, lunches, dealing with printers, assembling and printing manuals: essentially ensuring that training could run as smoothly as possible in several European locations.

Duties: Telephone sales to the NHS, local Government, and corporate entities. Cold calling, making appointments for the National Sales Manager, ensuring regular customers are kept happy, report writing, compiling contact lists, checking and contributing to official tenders. Won tenders worth over £60,000, made more new business appointments than anyone else during calling cold-drive, learned how to sell computers and servers with no prior experience of computer sales using self-taught interviewing techniques.

Duties: Telephone selling cognitive psychology courses to new and existing customers, co-writing and proofing advertising copy, making cold calls regarding company courses, quality checking and fact-checking experimental multi-media CD Rom trainings, updating customer database, answering enquiries (writing personalised emails and sales letters), helping source equipment and a venue for a large event.

Duties: Managing the Electronic Subscriptions Department. Day-to-day management includes assignment of work, decision-making about discount policies and prices, monitoring invoicing and ordering procedures, arranging consortia (academic buying clubs) across Eastern Europe whilst dealing with international suppliers, arranging space and promotional material for conferences across Eastern Europe.

Duties: Assisting with the startup of these dot-com e-commerce firms to set all office administration systems in place. This included getting the office layout designed and installed, and working with the directors to create company profile literature for first round-funding proposals. Cold-calling major companies to discuss potential contracts and partnerships. Internet market research. This company failed to get first-round funding so I was made redundant as the company closed down.

Generated and created article proposals, sold the ideas, and subsequently the features to national women's magazines, worked assignments at Woman's Realm, Best, that's life & Satellite & TV magazine. Self-discipline and good organizational skills were necessary components of making an income from this self-employed business. Without formal journalism training I was able to win paid commissions from major UK magazines to write features, and work in-house.

Duties: Researcher, telephone interviewer and staff writer producing up to seven columns a week including: features, letters page, readers' tips and inventions. Product testing, liaising with PR companies, research on the safety of reader's tips! Contributed to captioning and strap-lines. I received three performance related pay rises in three months and was a member of the British Magazine of the Year Feature Writing Team 1997.
