Led international team of up to 27 fulltime staff and over 500 on-site conservation workers, with budget up to $11.6 million. • Re-envisioned concept of “world monuments” in the 21st century to build a more diverse, modern preservation constituency and funding base. Shifted focus from a site-based, bricks-and-mortar conservation approach to a community-based, social impact-driven model, catalyzing global action to build cultural equity and social justice, socio-economic opportunity, and environmental sustainability through the conservation of heritage sites. • Stabilized and advanced management of long-term conservation initiatives at priority sites, including China’s Forbidden City; the Rock-Hewn Churches of Lalibela, in Ethiopia; and Cambodia’s Angkor Archeological Park. • Established sustainable financial infrastructure and management practices. Eliminated history of major deficits in 6 of preceding 11 years. Reduced operational expenses by 38%. • Increased and diversified revenue streams. Co-created non-profit organization to preserve and reuse historic elevated urban rail line as a public park and cultural destination. Led strategic planning, board development, fundraising, design, programming, government & community relations, media relations, and online communications. • Championed creation of world-renowned New York City landmark out of neglected historic asset stretching from Gansevoort Street to West 34th Street, which now welcomes 7.5 million visitors per year. • Secured essential support from government and community at all levels for High Line’s adaptive reuse. Successfully sought rezoning to allow transformation of High Line into a public amenity. • Propelled planning and design process, resulting in design incorporating the quality of nature taking over a man-made structure. Guided 2 design competitions, selection of a design team, and collaborative design process with city partners and design team. • Drove annual and long-term planning, growing organization from start-up to permanent institution. Built Friends of the High Line from 2 volunteers to a year-round staff of 80, seasonal staff of 60, and 100+ regular volunteers. • Defined clear, engaging identity and voice of a creative brand that's catalyzed visionary projects globally. Captured the High Line’s essence as an almost transgressive reimagining of this NYC structure for the 21st century. • Designed and led two successful capital campaigns totaling $180 million to rehabilitate and endow the High Line. • Developed fundraising structure and relationships generating $10 million in annual operating funds. Created special events program; built membership program to 10,000 members; stewarded major gifts program; directly solicited six- and seven-figure gifts; initiated and grew foundation giving; and established revenue-generating initiatives • Spearheaded continuous development of Board of Directors into sophisticated, well-governed and fiscally responsible body.
