In this role, I take consumer pain points, develop solutions and turn them into consumer products. This includes everything from:- Researching new technologies- 3D modeling tooling ready designs in Fusion 360- Developing schematics and PCBs in Eagle- Debugging PCBs and writing firmware for PIC (or managing contractor for Nordic) microcontrollers- Working with an international team to source tooling and components- Assisting the development of fixturing and manufacturing processes (including test procedures)- Helping out wherever else I am needed

My team at Standard Motor Products (SMP) designs aftermarket automotive camshaft and crankshaft position sensors to provide customers cost and quality improvements over the OEM part.- Measured OEM part using CMM and other measurement tools.- Wrote LabView script and performed testing to characterize signal and electrical characteristics.- Evaluated Hall Effect ICs for use in new design using 3D printed fixtures.- Developed new design using Solidworks for 3D model and drawings.- Worked with manufacturing team to develop manufacturing process.- Wrote validation specification.

Bose Automotive Systems are custom designed and tuned for each specific vehicle to provide an exceptional listening experience. - Designed, documented and performed thermal and structural modeling of new automotive amplifier designs - Bench tested prototypes for board strain, IC loading, power loss, thermal dissipation and algorithm functionality - Wrote assembly specifications and visited plant to insure alignment with operator instructions and training - Identified root cause of test failure and developed an algorithm to compensate for noise and offset in thermal sensing circuit - Led 8D problem solving team to resolve test failures and develop best practices for use of QFN package components - Received Bose LEAN Yellow Belt certification for completion of prototype build process improvement project - Developed test fixtures and became Bluehill 3 certified to measure solder joint strength on Instron test machine - Certified on Bluehill 3 software for Instron testing including the use of my own test fixture designs - Wrote company-wide specification to clarify supplier quality requirements for all sheet metal components

Collabyrinth- Assisted in the design and build of a 4 foot by 5 foot labyrinth table- Designed, wired and programmed electrical system to move the table based on how players were leaning on foot pads. Components included stepper motors and drivers, a power supply and a custom logic control board using an Arduino compatible microcontroller.Haunted House Effects- Worked with a local theater group to create effects for their haunted house.

The cab structure group develops the main body panels and exterior trim/close out pieces of the cab including the structural support and mounting hardware for the other groups.- Designed, developed and documented aesthetic, structural and body components of Freightliner truck cabs- Found opportunities for weight and cost savings and wrote business cases to justify new designs- Created 3D CAD models and made drawings for injection-molded plastics, sheet molded composites, press break and stamped steel and aluminum extrusions.- Wrote test specifications for both standardized and original tests to validate component design- Devised and coded tools for tracking group progress and efficiency using LEAN manufacturing principles

The cab concept group develops the configurations of cabs to develop and manages the teams involved to ensure all parts work together where as the cab suspension group designs the components to mount the cab on the chassis- Used 3D CAD and documentation software to organize Bills of Material (BOMs) for cross company alignment- Created proposal and presented scope of work for development of a new class of heavy truck cab to product steering committee liaison- Assisted in study and data analysis for steering column comparison- Redesigned a forged cab tilt shuttle bracket to reduce cost, complexity and weight

The MBUSI body shop builds up several Mercedes-Benz car models from individual parts up until the car is painted and the process engineering group insures that the process is robust and efficient- Analyzed how engineering changes were sent to manufacturing and developed a tool to improve communication between different countries, languages and interests- Reviewed the error proofing tools and looked for ways to improve process robustness- Developed tools to identify process bottlenecks and generate timing reports using Visual Basic for Excel - Worked on many different parts of the production floor to gain experience with automotive manufacturing processes- Assisted with teaching of paths for sealing/adhesive robots

As a CAReer Trainee I assisted with projects while learning the CAD and documentation tools used at DTNA- Evaluated the reliability of latching, sealing and fastening components using a statistical analysis of warranty data- Worked with a university to redesign a component using new composite manufacturing technique- Evaluated different types of glass for use as rear window of truck cab

Open pool and watch and assist swimmers during lap swim and exercise classes.

Supermileage SAE is an international collegiate competition in which students build high efficiency vehicles that are judged on fuel efficiency- Worked on small engineering team to design and build a high fuel mileage vehicle- Used C++ to program an Arduino prototyping board to control solenoid of direct ejection fuel injector- Built a system of Hall Effect sensors, an O2 sensor, transistors and relays to monitor and control engine activity - Displayed engine and car status on an LCD display and used a stepper motor/potentiometer for a “drive-by-wire” HMI system- Assisted in the completion of semester reports, presentations and other required documentation

Lived with and was responsible for campers aged 9 and 10. Worked on hiking and tripping staff where I assisted on, planned and led trips for hiking, climbing and camping in Western Maine and the White Mountains.

Individually instructed a laboratory section where I taught material relevant to experiments, performed and explained demonstrations, facilitated students’ experiments and proctored and graded quizzes.

Baja SAE is an international collegiate competition in which student build Mini Baja cars that are raced in a tractor pull, drag strip, suspension course and endurance course - Assisted in the fabrication and redesign for clearance errors and custom mounts- Assisted in testing of vehicle performance

Lived with and was responsible for 12 campers. Instructed wrestling and ultimate frisbee, planned and facilitated team building activities, belayed campers on high ropes, rock walls and zip line.
