It is also a purchase order system, a ticketing system, a sophisticated search, and almost anything else you need or want. SharePoint can be your single collaboration system that integrates all this functionality into one location. Housing all your data within a single system maximizes  cross collaboration and minimize company cost. Many users look outside the platform for third party software to provide functionality not immediately available, many of which are either overloaded with unneeded functionality or lacking in key features, only providing the basics. Why pay for an additional software or additional fees for something that doesn't fit your needs? Most companies have administrators and they do a fantastic job providing the day to day services needed to maintain your system. I started as an administrator so I can tell you, most administrators can't handle some of the more complex functionality required to assess user needs, plan, and create systems, custom and otherwise, that meet your needs. Governance plans are essential when building multi-tier environments onsite, in the cloud, or hybrid and require a great deal of knowledge of site-wide, high level function to create. These skills come with experience and training. I have invested both time and resources to develop the skills to translate how users think they'll use the system to how they will actually use the system, learn the front and back end code to create additional functionality unavailable with system settings, and learn the foundation of SharePoint.I've also invested in moving toward the future. I am certified in Azure, Microsoft's cloud service platform, Microsoft 365, will complete my SharePoint Architect certifications by before the 2021 holidays, and trained in PowerApps which is the newest way Microsoft creates custom application and will be using going forward.
