Young Adult Librarian
I build young adult programming by work with community partners or creating original content. I develop the collection of young adult fiction and nonfiction, the young adult and adult graphic novels, and the 800s (poetry, plays, commentary, humor, essays). I am a passport application acceptance agent. I provide tech support for whatever need comes to the desk, from smartphones to apps on them, from VHS-to-digital conversion to Final Cut Pro X intro. I outreach to schools and other community members, talking about cool books and relevant subjects for which I did research and with which I attempt to entertain my audience. I’ve worked with public school teachers (Glenbard South and West, art and special education) and NFP college prep groups (Creo DuPge). I interview and supervise high schooler volunteers, year-round and seasonally, connecting skills and interests to department needs. I give workshops on writing skills and customer service best practices (and help participants write their own!). Some of the things I’ve done are after-hours Nerf Wars and started a club for PlainsWalkers for Magic: the Gathering.

Adult Department Librarian Substitute
• I wasn’t hired directly to this position. I worked with my Circulation Department Head and the Adult Department Head to negotiate desk time for me to practice my reference skills and to support the full- and part-time AD staff. I would step in when needed, and offer coverage when I was able.• Provided technology services, including Microsoft Word instruction, printer/copier guidance, mobile device services, and whatever else came to the desk• Provided orientation to online digital services, such as Consumer Reports, Mango languages, and A-Z Databases
Circulation Clerk Ii
• Daily use of SirsiDynex Workflows 2013 integrated library system and Enterprise OPAC• Served on committee to replace physical membership cards for digital records, and procedure for auto-renewal, a change we implemented in 2015• Updated procedure instructions for staff use, such as various types of membership registration, change-of-address for members in digital records and physically corresponded per post office notices, and monthly letter notices. I continue to update other procedures according to the department’s needs for current use.• Supervised four Clerk I staff members• I was the “go-to” guy for digital database orientation and for copy/print inquiries
Assistant Access Services Supervisor
I supervise circulation and research assistants during open hours, act as liaison between library staff and external patrons, conduct special projects for the library, and consult on researching topics, as well as general upkeep of all aspects of the library, in addition to impromptu interpersonal or technological relations.
