• In 2023, I have guided and supported all 11 Implementing Partners to achieve full PSEA capacity under the PSEA Common Assessment. I developed UNHCR’s PSEA community-based complaints mechanisms, the first of its kind in Malaysia; conduct PSEA training for UNHCR and partner staff; and oversee SEA investigations.• As co-chair of the UN Country Team PSEA Network, I spearheaded the development of the national PSEA action plan and support the capacity development of other UN agencies’ PSEA Focal Points. • Conduct advocacy efforts with local government agencies including the Welfare Department and One Stop Crisis Centres in order to expand safe access to services for refugees. I have led the multi-year development of coordination and interagency platforms with said government agencies and key stakeholders in 2 regions.• Developed ground-breaking online safe spaces for refugee women and girls project involving 3 local service providers and 7 refugee communities. I created the interagency GBV referral mechanism currently utilized by the communities. The project was a 2022 UNHCR Emerging Practice and has impacted over 500 women-at-risk.• Project manage 4 child protection and GBV partners who provide case management, deliver BIDs and BIAs, and run community-based GBV engagements. My role includes leading risk management, monitoring budgets, conducting regular coordination, and monitoring project outputs. In 2023, these partners have assisted over 200 women and 300 children-at-risk.• As UNHCR’s LGBTIQ+ focal point, I developed and ran training for staff, created safe spaces, and developed a coordination platform with LGBTIQ+ stakeholders.• As Engaging Men through Accountable Practices (EMAP) focal point, I oversee 3 partners running the EMAP program, and provide capacity building and technical support to coordinators and facilitators. The program has successfully impacted over 150 refugee men and women across 2 states by strengthening community-based GBV prevention.

• Successfully managed four GBV and child-protection safe community projects with UNHCR Implementing Partners that impacted 5,000 vulnerable women and children. This includes leading strategic planning and risk management; monitoring budget, impact indicators, outputs, and outcomes; providing technical expertise on refugee-related issues; and supervising reporting obligations.• As Protection against Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) focal point, developed and facilitated PSEA training for all UNHCR Malaysia’s staff, Implementing Partners, and Operational Partners. Also develop UNHCR Malaysia’s inter-agency strategy on SEA, developing community-based reporting mechanisms, and providing technical support for partners SEA investigations.• Created the SGBV Legal Aid program which provides free legal counselling and pro bono watching brief services, actively managing 12 chambering pupils and 2 interns. In 2019, the program provided over 200 interventions for SGBV survivors.• Assisted in developing and implementing the SGBV National Action Plan, including conducting dialogues and capacity building activities with government agencies, NGOs, partners, and refugee communities to strengthen the protection of refugee SGBV survivors.• Providing training on domestic violence laws and prevention for UNHCR and implementing partners staff. • Developed IEC materials, including a domestic violence information booklet for refugee survivors which has been translated into Somali, Arabic, and Burmese.

My role on the EU-funded ECHO Project focuses on assessing the claims of Burmese asylum seekers in Malaysia. This includes:• Conducting refugee status determination interviews to gather information for asylum claims.• Drafting assessments of the asylum claims in order to recommend whether to grant refugee status under international refugee law.• Conducting appeal file reviews and appeal interviews.• Providing rejection counseling for asylum seekers and refugees.• Identifying cases with special needs for further deliberation.

WCC is an NGO dedicated to the elimination of violence against women and children, and promoting gender equality. I am proud to be the first male staff in WCC’s 30 years of existence.As Advocacy Officer, my role included providing court support, organizing training and workshops, promoting legal reform, and conducting research.Training & Consultations• Organized National Consultation on Rights of Vulnerable Victims at ILKAP with key agencies.• Conducted training on sexual crime and domestic violence for DPPs at National Judicial and Legal Training Institute (ILKAP).• Conducted training for lawyers on holding watching briefs. • Conducted training for court staff on handling vulnerable victims. Dialogues & Programs• Organized Interagency Dialogues on rights of vulnerable victim with judiciary, DPPs, welfare, and Bar Council.• Organized “Child Privacy & The Media” Forum with editors, journalists, and journalism students.• Organized workshop on “Child Rights & Ethical Reporting” for journalism students.• Facilitator for Boyz Program on masculinity and gender equality at Westlands School.Law Reform• Part of organizing committee for Citizens Against Rape campaign.• Researching and drafting legal reform proposals for Attorney General Chambers on Penal Code, Criminal Procedure Code, Domestic Violence Act, and Child Act.Surveys & Research• Ran ground-breaking survey involving Sessions Court judges, magistrates, DPPs and watching brief lawyers on rights and facilities available to vulnerable victims in criminal courts.• Ran 4-month survey on news reporting on sexual crime involving children.• Conducted research on maintenance orders for divorced women.Court Support• Provided court support for 12 cases, including 4 child sexual abuse cases and 6 domestic violence cases. News Articles• Wrote 8 news articles on issues including child privacy rights, women in politics, enforcement of due diligence principles, and marital rape.

Handled general litigation and civil litigation matters, including divorce, probate, debt recovery, banking and providing legal advice for various civil matters.Also advised clients on issues pertaining to marriage, divorce, maintenance, and custody.

Accepted as a pupillage student in May 2011, and retained by the firm after being called to the Malaysian Bar in October 2012.I was involved in a diverse range of civil litigation matters including land fraud, directors’ breach of fiduciary duties, construction arbitration, scholarship disputes, and divorce.

Assisted the Court Secretariat in his duties, including the filing of new cases and case scheduling.Conducted research on the criminal legal system of Indonesia, and the differences between Continental Law practiced in Indonesia with the Common Law practiced in Malaysia. A report detailing the research results was compiled and presented to Universiti Utara Malaysia.
