During my career I have helped executives from Cisco, IBM, Intel, Palo Alto Networks, Sony, and more craft and tell their stories through the media, blogs, press releases, board presentations, international all-hands, or center-stage keynotes.Today I am a passionate communicator driven by the thrill of seeing a message get through and resonate. By helping companies and executives communicate effectively I enable them to motivate, sell, hire, persuade, and advance.I am fascinated by technology and have broad experience having launched everything from PlayStations for Sony, to toy microscopes for Intel, firewalls for Palo Alto Networks, and routers for Cisco.I like to learn about a company, industry, issue, technology, or product—way beyond the bullet points. This lets me translate the bits, bytes, and jargon into words that can be understood by everyone. If people don’t understand what you are saying, your message won’t get through.I look for what will get people excited. A new product category? A unique feature? Have you solved the problem that has the customer pulling out his or her hair? Or maybe you’re the first to use an innovative and exciting technology? (And yes, ‘First!’ is occasionally the thing that will get people excited… but usually there is something far more compelling that will grab them.)I coach Fortune 100 executives on their communications content & delivery, help founders think through strategy & management, and work with new-in-career employees on skills development, career planning and more.I also build teams that help companies meet key goals and objectives through top-notch communications programs. These teams often work with many different parts of a company; are asked to turn on a dime, and encounter roadblocks that can keep them from getting to done, so I build them to be fast-moving, flexible, determined, and easy to work with.

Photography SabbaticalOn Sabbatical Apr 2023 - Jul 2024Johnson, Vermont, UsA Year of Rediscovery: Photography and Seeing the World AnewOver the past year I gave myself the gift of time to follow my passions.A key part of the year was a return to serious photography (after having put that aside for about 15 years). I spent the year re-learning, getting to the next level, creating a portfolio, beginning a weekly newsletter, building an audience, leading photo walks, and starting to teach. As I now return to helping companies communicate effectively two quotes I take away from the year:Dorthea Lang: "The camera is an instrument that teaches people how to see without a camera" and Phil Collins: “In learning you will teach, and in teaching you will learn.”My experience reflects these sentiments perfectly.Feel free to explore my work at randomcapture.substack.com and joshuaw.com.I also hope to still find time to teach photography so if you’d like to learn to take better pictures, develop photography as a creative outlet, or use the camera to learn to see the world please check out randomcapture.substack.com/p/learn-photography and reach out to me. -
