I am a Preventive and Addiction Medicine physician with a passion for treating patients with Substance Use Disorder and co-occurring mental health diagnoses at the individual and public health levels. While the opioid and drug epidemic is undeniable, the aftermath of life trauma on the physical and mental health of our population is in dire need of being addressed through compassionate, evidenced-based treatment, and systemic policy change. The Lorax once said “I speak for the trees for the trees have no tongues” - a poignant reminder of the need for advocacy for those with Substance Use Disorder, a chronic disease that has been marginalized and ostracized in society and medicine.Clinically and professionally, I love developing strong relationships with patients, treating co-occurring mental health needs, and building innovative programs such as protocols and guidelines for co-occurring mental health, Hepatitis C, and Intensive Outpatient (IOP). I thrive in environments where I am able to build creative solutions and apply current evidence-based medicine to solve healthcare needs from a public health perspective. When I’m not in clinic, my wife and I love spending time on our farm, and I still actively produce and record music. There’s also a good chance you’ll find me wading the rivers of Tennessee with a fly rod in hand.
