The performing arts have been a part of my life since elementary school when I started taking piano lessons and joining a children's choir. Throughout my time in school, I have been involved with choir, musical theatre, and marching band, and I discovered my passion for music in high school. I became very good with music because of my passion and drive to reach my goals, which motivated me to work hard despite the challenges faced. Even though music is my passion, I was unsure if I would make that my career. It was not until college that I discovered the life I wanted to pursue.As a current 4th year undergraduate student at San Jose State University (SJSU), majoring in Engineering Technology (Computer Network System Management concentration) with a minor in business, I realized that having both technology and business skills are great, and both skills are now my interests. After taking a statistics class, I discovered my career interest in statistics and data.This past summer, I interned at Sony Pictures Entertainment as an Information Technology Marketing Business Analysis Intern. I had the amazing opportunity to explore different areas and learn new skills. One highlight from the internship was that I joined the company band as a pianist; the band had a company performance, which also included a karaoke session in which I sang. From this internship, I learned to be optimistic about finding a good career that I enjoy even if the career is not perfect. I realized that I could still keep music a part of my life by being a part of the entertainment industry.Currently, I'm an Instructional Student Assistant for Dr. Elisa Mattarelli at SJSU, where I perform both TA and RA work. I enjoy working with my professor and helping students.My journey resembles the words of Julie Duong's (SJSU alumni) presentation titled, "Life Is A Winding Road". To me, this phrase indicates it is okay for life's plans to change.Currently, my goals are to gain research and academic experience to prepare for graduate school and obtain another internship to prepare for a tech career in the entertainment industry. Even though my interest is in the entertainment space, I'm also open to other industries and the possibility of changing career fields.Music can still be a part of my life. Some examples of my involvement are performing at community events and attending and volunteering at my high school's music program.Despite challenges and life's uncertainties, I'm hopeful and willing to work hard for educational and career success and a wonderful life.
