2021 summer internship working with a green tech start-up with a sustainable, environmental purpose to help users sort waste based on local recycling rules.Responsible for generating meaningful metrics, such as a user's carbon footprint, derived from the cloud-based relational database, which were to be displayed to users of the mobile app. Loaded recycling data into the database and ensured data was clean and in line with table constraints. Updated key SQL stored procedures ensuring any changes were thoroughly tested. I was also able to provide carefully considered optimisations, such as the extended use of keys, to the database which increased efficiency.

My main responsibility within the Liquidity Management team is to pro-actively position and fund State Street’s Global nostro accounts for the EMEA region, adhering closely to currency deadlines, to achieve a zero balance therefore minimising any overdraft or negative interest fees. To do this I must provide forecasts of expected nostro related cash activity and prepare and instruct funding calculations and payments.As part of the role, I must maintain ongoing awareness of issues relating to cash funding e.g. FX rates and interest rate volatility.It is also important that I maintain and foster relationships with internal and external counterparts such as client service groups, treasury, agent banks and clearing schemes.

As part of the programme, I was also expected to rotate roles at regular intervals within the Investment Operations department.Cash Reconciliation OfficerReconciling cash holdings against the wrap platform records ensuring they are accurate. Investigate any breaks and clear within a timely fashion in accordance with the FCA's CASS rules. Answered queries on a daily basis from clients, external fund managers and discretionary fund managers.Spearheaded a client remediation project, the primary objective was to reconcile all cash breaks to allow the client's old account to close. In the end, I was able to clear the open breaks from 2000 to around 100 and reduced the non-receipt of settlements funding figure to a record low, from around £16 million to under £1 million.Business risk champion for the team. Responsible for raising risk events to Risk & Compliance department to then pass onto the client and subsequently report to the FCA if considered a breach.Mentored several new team members to a level capable of working independently.Dealing OfficerAfter a year within the Cash Reconciliation team, I requested a rotation to the Dealing department.My primary responsibility was to send dealing instructions to fund managers prior to the daily fund cut-off by EMX, Calastone and fax. If by fax, I had to confirm with the fund manager that the instruction had been received. Any rejected instructions had to be promptly investigated.I also had to place nominee corrections or buy backs if a client had been disadvantaged.
