At Bethany Christian Services' Residential Treatment Facility, I work directly with YSBP (youth with sexual behavior problems) in their day to day life, treatment, and education. My responsibilities have been developing relationships, maintaining unit emotional and physical safety, helping residents follow their goals and treatment plans for their progress in the program, writing reports on different residents that I advocate for for their court appointments, and helping to implement the Sanctuary Model of care into our program as a member of that committee. I have transitioned between part-time, full-time, and on-call positions at different points as my circumstances allowed, but have remained employed since February of 2022.

Under general supervision and according to departmental policies and procedures and within the individual plan of care, I performed the role of physical and emotional care given to clients with mental illness and/or developmental delays. I was responsible to actively participate in safety management, milieu management, crisis intervention and prevention. I worked on the Aspen unit which dealt primarily with patients experiencing various forms of mania and psychosis, and I worked there 40 hours a week or more for the entire year and 3 months that I was there.

As a member of the Activities Team, I was responsible for safely managing and facilitating a number of activities. These ranged all the way from ropes elements like zip lines, high ropes, giant swings, etc; to bowling lanes, which I learned how to work on and repair. I obtained level 1 ropes certification from Adventure Experiences. I was also responsible for serving a number of meals to guests throughout the week, and for joining in on post session clean up and turn day to prepare for the next week of camp.

At the end of 2020 I briefly worked at a Spartan Nash warehouse, contracted through the company ProLogistix. I worked the second shift while in school and was responsible for picking and filling orders and operating various lift vehicles, for which I obtained forklift certification. I left the company due to the working conditions and some unpaid wages from the Prologistix side of things

I was responsible for accompanying truck drivers on their larger routes and helping to make all the deliveries (which were manually downstacked from pallets and moved by hand). I was in highschool so I would only work one shift a week on a Monday morning, starting at 1AM and getting back anywhere from noon to 5PM. The largest stop I recall was around 4,000 lbs of fish and other meats, moved by hand with hand trucks, we finished it in an hour and a half.
