Josiah Mcclintic Email and Phone Number
As a sophomore student, I have participated in a design project for one of my introductory Civil Engineering classes called “Springer: Introduction to Civil Engineering Design”. This project entailed working in a team to design an improved commuter parking lot for a small local business, considering the transportation, construction management, and water resource aspects of the project. During the summers of 2023 and 2024, I had an internship position with the South Carolina Department of Transportation in the Traffic Engineering Division, where both times I worked within the Work-Zone Traffic Control Office. Over the two summers, I designed detour routes and railroad preemption plans, revised design plans from the Signals Office, updated a lane closure request form, and drafted a Raised Concrete Intersection (RCI) project in Horry County, SC. I have also participated in 3 Creative Inquiry (CI) courses at Clemson thus far. During the 2022-2023 academic year, I took the Steel Bridge CI, where I, along with the rest of a team researched, designed, and planned the construction of a steel truss bridge in preparation for the annual ASCE Symposium at the Citadel in Charleston, SC in April of 2023. In the Fall of 2023, I took a Martian and Lunar Regolith CI, where the goal was to test and characterize Martian and Lunar soil samples under specified conditions, and to obtain information about their geologic and engineering properties. The 3rd CI, Driverless Cars, was taken in the Spring 2024 semester. The goal of the class was to research how driverless cars function and how the Controller Area Network (CAN) can be better designed to perfectly monitor and command a vehicle without a human driver. I, along with two other students worked together to present our research in a 4-page paper to be published in a scientific research journal. As a first-semester senior, I am most interested in a career within the environmental, geotechnical, and water resource sectors.
