From the first day as a freshman at South Dakota State University, I was hooked on-campus life. I fell in love with the transformative possibilities of higher education and haven’t really left college since. Early in my career social media was a brand new force, one that seemed intimidating to some. I, however, was fascinated by the possibility of it. I turned it into my passion and platform. After 12 years of working on college campuses, I began my doctorate at California Lutheran University. As graduation day neared, I decided I would take a big leap. Instead of returning to work on campus, I went rogue, as an independent speaker, consultant, and author on digital engagement and leadership.I’m honored to speak with thousands of young adults, educational professionals, organizations, and executives on how to humanize technology, post with a purpose, and prioritize building engaging online communities. I’ve spoken to in-person and virtual crowds of 30 to over 3,000, all around the globe including the NASPA Women’s Leadership Institute, NYU Abu Dhabi, and hundreds more. One week before COVID-19 Pandemic stay at home orders were announced in the US, I submitted the final draft of my first solo book with Stylus Publishing: Digital Leadership in Higher Education: Purposeful Social Media in a Connected World. Upon release in September of 2020 it was listed as an Amazon #1 new release for college and university student life.My work can also be found in the Handbook of Student Affairs Administration, The Journal of Leadership Studies, Contested Issues in Student Affairs, and more.I've been featured in Inside Higher Education, The Chronicle of Higher Education and LinkedIn even recognized me as a Top Voice in Education. I’m a nerd at heart, so I continue to conduct grant-funded and award-winning research. I’m honored to collaborate with Florida State University’s Leadership Learning Research Center, conducting research, creating curriculum, and teaching graduate and doctoral level courses.Stay updated on digital leadership with my podcast, Josie and the Podcast, and follow my blog, which was named to the “Top 50 Must-Read Higher Education Technology Blogs” by Ed Tech from 2014-2021! Find all the goodness at www.josieahlquist.com.When I'm not busy speaking, consulting, or conducting research, you can find me enjoying time with my rescue dogs, nieces/nephew, or exploring North American in our RV, Lady Hawk. Connect with me on Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook to stay up-to-date on my latest adventures!
