Josip S. Email and Phone Number
Looking at my career as a power engineer there are 3 traits that quantify a qualified individual to be an operator at any location. A desire and focus on safety. When one looks at our profession, we work with a controlled explosive reaction. If we don’t respect and admire the power the work environment holds around us then that is a recipe for disaster. I have always shown my plant the proper respect, and continually demonstrated that through a focus on safe work practices, from myself to contractors working on my plant. I can safely say I have demonstrated a respect for safety throughout my power engineering career. The team. 12 hour shifts, night shifts, holidays, overtime, operators spend a lot of time with each other. Dare say, that depending on the work situation we may spend more time with our fellow co-workers than our own families. I accept that reality, and start to view my co-workers as an extended family. This brings us closer together to work together for the benefit of the team. When an issues arises we work it out, we don’t have the luxury of ignoring the problem. I work to foster that environment every day I show up and put my cover-alls on. We succeed or fail as a team. Insatiable curiosity. When you look at a process, and view the whole thing, it is a living breathing entity. It has a heart, veins, mind, and most frustratingly an attitude. I challenge myself through self-learning, apprenticing, and hands-on experience to learn as much as I can about the process I’m in charge of. I get a sense of wonder and joy when I figure out when my plant is sick and able to figure it out. When we had a problem with our Distillate Hydrotreating reactor tower, numerous trades and professionals couldn’t identify the problem. Being an enthusiast for learning, I recalled a very knowledgeable contractor. After reviewing it with him, we identified the problem to hydrogen permeation, a slow movement and collection of hydrogen atoms across a membrane.
