Junior Project Manager

Greater Philadelphia Area

At Blue Hill Partners, I served as a project manager for a venture capital firm and incubator focused exclusively on the Cleantech sector in North America. I investigated the environmental, economic, and regulatory feasibility of constructing a biomass-fired power plant in Pennsylvania. I built the company database on municipal and industrial waste treatment plants, poultry litter sources in central PA, and potential power plants for retrofitting. I supplemented these with research and reporting done on state and federal nutrient credit trading programs, renewable energy credits, air emissions, and watershed characteristics. Beyond the research and data analysis, the job entailed a lot of communication. I coordinated contact between offices, which meant creating and instituting a filing organization and weekly project updates for the key players. And where public information on regulatory programs was limited, I would call up state and federal officials to find out more about the finer points of credit trading programs. Eventually I got to the point where I knew the answers as well as anyone I could reach on the phone.Ultimately, my recommendation was that regulatory uncertainty made the business case tenuous, and given my findings, the project was shelved. I scored points in the areas of robust analysis and personal integrity, but also was responsible for talking myself out of a job as a result! Talk about a life lesson.
