Solcon verzorgt TV en internet voor honderdduizenden Nederlanders. Een uitdaging hierbij is de grote diversiteit aan abonnementen en soorten aansluitingen dat zijn oorzaak vindt in de historie van het Nederlandse kabel-TV en internet. Tegen deze achtergrond denk ik na over het applicatielandschap en de orchestration van data. Hierbij werk ik nauw samen met de beide scrum teams.

Het team bouwt software voor het beheer van camera’s en andere devices voor de uitvoering van klantopdrachten. Dit alles wordt aangestuurd door een CMDB waarmee we alle projecten, duizenden devices, hun locaties, KPI’s, en nog veel meer orkestreren. Het alarmeringssysteem houdt in de gaten of alles nog leeft. Als product owner vul ik de backlog en bepaal in welke volgorde deze wordt afgewerkt.Ik ben de beheerder van deze software. Daarnaast ondersteun ik de gebruikers als vraagbaak en door instructie te geven. Ik schrijf de handleiding en de release notes. Ik fungeer als ontvangstpunt voor vragen en problemen. Die los ik dan op of routeer ze door naar een programmeur of systeembeheerder. Daarnaast test ik alle interactieve software.Verder interview ik regelmatig collega’s (directie, projectleiders, planners, monitoring team, werkvoorbereiders, monteurs, magazijnmedewerkers, etc.) om de werkprocessen en de knelpunten te achterhalen. Het interactieve deel van de applicaties ondersteunt deze processen. Hierdoor hebben we de meest efficiënte logistiek in de branche. Ik ben er trots op hoe ik dit alles van de grond af aan heb opgebouwd. En er is nog steeds ruimte voor verbetering.

Started at SRC helping to developing the cloud version of the very same product I developed 10 years ago. How cool is that.The product, which is called SRC-PDM, manages article data in all possible settings. This includes manufacturer centric, wholesale centric, retailer centric. The product uses dot-net technology and has a web GUI which makes it suitable for usage in the cloud. It has dozens if ways to interface with different systems like ERPs, several data pools, MS-Excel, etc.In order to build this we (it was a group efford) initially built a highly optimized framework that does CRUD, relations, different caching levels, database creation, and more stuff so we could completely focus on the business code. My brilliant collegue Marius (who cannot be found on Linked In) built this rediculously efficient HTML GUI that makes Microsoft and Google look like amatures.Later on I was mostly active as a consultant implementing SRC-PDM. This happens both at customer site and in our SaaS cloud. Most interesting are the customers that require a non-standard solution which allows me to show off my architect skills.

I have mostly been working on the new version of the any-to-any translation tool Softshare Delta. The product is written in Visual C++ 2005. The new version includes a brand new GUI and on top of that there is a ton of new functionality under the hood as well. It has been a challenging project, and the result was very satisfactory.The first version has been released in July 2009. Since then I have added a ton of new features to make it even better.Per October 2010 Liaison acquired Softshare.

At Centric I was member of the development team that maintains the WMS Locus. Centric is market leader in the Netherlands in the area of WMSes.I worked on the server part of the impressively extensive product which is entirely developed in PL-SQL, the Oracle database language.I learned one or two things about relational databases I did not know before. I got better at optimizing them, I learned how to write joins referring more than a dozen tables, I learned how to recover from a deadlock.

My first time in a large organization. I spent four years trying to implement some changes. This proved to be not so easy in such a large organization. But with some patience you can still get a lot done I learned. I created safety consciousness, unlocked data, mapped processed and much moreI had a great team of developers working for me; smart people that had the right attitude.

Continuation of position at Harbinger. SRC aquired the Dutch Harbinger office.Developed software for Product Data Management (PDM) which in its turn was both used to produce EDI PRICAT messages and served as a CMS for web sites.I had a team of 3 junior programmers to aid me. I did all analysis, design and planning for the product.

My team developed a fat MS-Windows client for an EDI product that ran on an AS/400. Although I started this job with some experience in C++. An extensive training in Object Orientation rocketed my development skills up.A quite advanced three layer framework (db, business, GUI) was first created. Using that framework the final application was built.

I helped to develop a big ecosystem model, mostly written in C and the C shell under Solaris. I worked in close harmony with the scientists (biologists, chemists, physicists).The model contained over a 100 differential equations multiplied by 15 spatial areas in the Dutch western Wadden Sea. The fast processes were attacked by calculating an equilibrium. This was the best the computers of these days were able to do.The last year I developed and implemented (in C++) an algorithm for combining field data with satellite images to determine suspended matter in the North Sea. These results had the quality of the field data combined with the geographic resolution of the satellite images. This was never done before and I'm still very proud of it. A scientific article was written from this by Wim van Raaphorst.
