I have (and always had) a passion for rotorcraft. I graduated in aerospace technologies at the Delft University of Technology in 1982. After the military service (yes, that did exist in those days) I joined the National Aerospace Laboratory (nowadays called Netherlands Aerospace Centre) NLR in Amsterdam in 1985 as a research scientist in the area of rotorcraft flight performance and rotorcraft operational support. My first job was to support the Royal Netherlands Air Force with the acquisition of their new helicopter types. I have also been active in various international research projects. In the field of helicopter safety I have been working on the development of (new) take-off and landing procedures and have become an early member of the European Helicopter Safety Team (EHEST). I also have been actively involved in Clean Sky Green Rotorcraft, which program aimed at halving the specific impact of any rotorcraft operation on the environment. Last but not least I enjoyed teaching some topics for future RPAS ('drone') operators.In mid-2021 I retired from NLR and joined the Stichting Behoud Erfgoed NLR - SBEN (Heritage Conservation Foundation) as a volunteer.Privately I maintain a worldwide database with registration details for every single rotorcraft ever produced. Most of those data are publicly available on my Rotorspot website.
