Engagements include:• GIZ Natural Resources and Climate Change Advisor on the Caribbean Aqua-Terrestrial Solutions (CATS) project for Component 1 ‘Adaptation of Rural Economies and Natural Resources to Climate Change’ and Component 2 ‘Management of Coastal Resources and Conservation of Marine Biodiversity’. CATS is being implemented in 8 Caribbean Countries by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA). (September 2014 to March 2015)• GIZ/CARPHA/GOPA Regional Expert on the Caribbean Aqua-Terrestrial Solutions (CATS) project Component 2: Management of Coastal Resources and Conservation of Marine Biodiversity. Responsibilities include technical advisory and managerial assistance to Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in St. Lucia, Dominica, Grenada, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Jamaica. A project implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) with assistance from GOPA. (May to November 2014).• Director on the Board of Directors of the National Quarries Company Limited. (December 2013 to present).• UNEP Consultant for the preparation of a national project proposal for Trinidad & Tobago as part of the GEF/UNEP regional project proposal for Integrating Watershed, Land and Ecosystems Management. (November to December 2013).

Trinidad & Tobago

The EMA is a statutory body established in 1995 by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago to address the country’s environmental problems. The Managing Director/CEO overarching responsibilities included: building, organizing and leading a team of professionals towards the achievement of the environmental mandate specified in the Environmental Management Act, Chapter 35:05; and planning and directing the implementation of the goals and objectives of the Authority as directed by the Board of Directors. Specific responsibilities overseen during the period included:• Preparation of policies, strategic plans, workplans and procedures for the operations of the Authority.• Management of the financial resources and human resources.• Preparation of draft laws including the Air Pollution Rules, Beverage Containers Bill, Hazardous Waste Rules, Solid Waste Rules. • Enforcing existing laws and regulations for environmental management• Educating the public about the EMA’s mandate and the nation’s environmental issues.• Processing applications for permits including certificates of environmental clearance (CEC) to new development projects, water pollution permits, and noise variations.• Networking with organizations nationally, regionally and internationally.• designating and protecting of environmentally sensitive areas and species.• Designing, securing funding, and implementing environmental projects, e.g., Highway Solar Lighting; Nariva Swamp restoration and sustainable livelihoods; Institutional Strengthening of the EMA for Climate Change initiatives; national clean-up to facilitate the introduction of the Beverage Containers Act

An international position with responsibilities for overseeing the organization’s work, across fifteen country offices, in the areas of wildlife and habitat. The department (WHP) works to eradicate cruel and unsustainable commercial exploitation of wildlife and to ensure the viability of the habitat upon which wildlife depends for survival. WHP programs achieve their goals through 1) influencing national and international policies and conventions, 2) educating the public, 3) supporting benign scientific research, 4) encouraging responsible alternatives to unsustainable utilization of wildlife, 5) supporting enforcement of existing wildlife protection laws, and 6) ensuring the preservation and effective management of ecologically viable habitat for wildlife species. My responsibilities included:• Overseeing the organization’s work in the areas of wildlife and habitat• Contributing to the development of IFAW’s programmatic strategic plans• Leading a group of professionals through the provision of strategic and tactical guidance• Team building, planning, execution and monitoring and evaluation• Fund-raising• Public speaking and media interviews• Liaising with international organizations and partners• Functioning as part of IFAW’s Executive Management Team• Training campaigners

The CCA is a regional Membership Organization that covers the Wider Caribbean, amongst non-governmental organizations, within government structures, and by individuals interested in voicing civil society's concern for the state of the environment in the Caribbean region. The CCA exists to enhance the quality of life for present and future generations of the Caribbean by facilitating the development and implementation of policies, programmes and practices which contribute to the sustainable management of the region's natural and cultural resources. The Executive Director’s responsibilities included: heading the CCA Secretariat based in Barbados, implementing the policy decisions of the CCA Board of Directors, creating linkages between the Board of Directors and the Membership, providing opportunities for interaction and exchange of ideas and expertise within the membership, providing guidance and leadership to technical and administrative staff, formulating long-term strategic plans and annual workplans, responding to the needs of members, fund-raising, representing the CCA at regional and international meetings, and public speaking. Core areas of work done during this period included: • Environmental education• Trade and environment• Coral reef ecosystems management• Community-based management• Water resources management• Protection of marine mammals• Protection against commercial trade in endangered wildlife

St. Lucia

This CARICOM Institution provided policy, scientific, technical and advisory services in all areas of environmental management, research and monitoring to sixteen Member States/territories. Responsibilities included the planning and delivery of all the technical work of the Institute including Waste Management, Water Resources Management, Coastal Zone Management, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Surveillance, Laboratory Services, Environmental Impact Assessments and Environmental Auditing. Under the supervision of the Executive Director and working closely with two other Directors, we planned, directed and managed the functions of the Institute. Management activities undertaken included:• Development of strategic plans, annual workplans and budgets• Preparation of Terms of Reference and performance criteria• Supervision of technical staff for implementation of workplans• Liaising with funding agencies and providing necessary progress and financial reports respectively• Performing overall monitoring and evaluation.

St. Lucia

Work areas included:• Programme Manager for Environmental Monitoring & Surveillance: Develop and coordinate environmental surveillance activities in Member States receiving assistance from CEHI.• Project Manager for the five-year environmental surveillance project component of the USAID supported Environmental and Coastal Resources (ENCORE) project. Responsible for the development of a logical framework for the implementation and management of the project, implementation of the project, preparation of reporting to the donor agency (quarterly progress reports, monthly financial reports, final reports).

St. Lucia

• Supervision and coordination of the scientific work of the Institute• Project Manager: supervision and coordination of a team of scientist and technical support staff involved in a major project dealing with enhancing the capabilities of CEHI Member states to protect the Coastal and Marine Environment. Project components included: ecological impacts in coastal marine environments, pollution monitoring of the coastal marine environment (water, sediments, organisms) by chemicals (petroleum hydrocarbons, pesticides, nutrients etc.); bacterial pollution monitoring; marine debris pollution; determination of near-shore current patterns.
