About Joud El-Shawa

Hi! My name is Joud (like The Beatles song), and I am an undergraduate student at Western University pursuing an Honors Specialization in Computer Science. I am set to graduate in April 2024, and am passionate about artificial intelligence (AI) and its potential to revolutionize the world we live in.💡Over the past few years, I have worked on a variety of personal and professional projects in AI, including:🧠 Participating in the intensive CIFAR-OSMO AI4Good Lab program, where we learned about various machine learning concepts and my team and I had the opportunity to apply our knowledge and develop SoQuo, a mental health social media app. SoQuo uses natural language processing to scan a user's feed and alert them of any potentially triggering content before opening the app. We were thrilled to win the Edmonton Accelerator Award, which gave us extra time and funding to continue improving the app.🖥️ Receiving an Undergraduate Student Research Award (USRA) in 2021 and working with my professor, Dr. Konstantinos Kontogiannis, on predicting software system failures and evaluating machine learning model stability for bug prediction. This was done in collaboration with IBM and Western University.💰 Being a Data Scientist at RBC Amplify 2022 where I collaborated with three other talented individuals to create a solution for improving youth financial literacy.💼 Continuing my work at RBC from Sept 2022 to April 2023 as a Data Scientist in the DNA Data Services team, where I contributed to projects on explainability and natural language processing, furthering my knowledge in machine learning.👩🏻‍💻 Receiving another USRA for 2023 and conducting AI research under the supervision of Dr. Yalda Mohsenzadeh, a professor at Western University and faculty member at the Vector Institute.Feel free to reach out, I'm always looking for new opportunities to grow my skills and contribute to meaningful projects! 💬
