Child And Youth Worker
CurrentI was hired on as a full time youth worker after doing my practicum at Avenue 15, run through Trellis Society. I started out as a relief worker so I worked many different shifts from morning, evening and overnights. I used what I had learned from my practicum as well as was trained how to do things that a practicum student cant like writing incident reports, AWOLs, being a liaison and advocate for the youth and the case managers. The following is a copy of the tasks and responsibilities I use daily:Develop and follow strategies and individual treatment plans that support youth’s growth and developmentFollow program expectations and adhere to industry standards and best practices including working from a trauma-informed care, grief and loss, attachment lens, and harm reduction approachMake intentional efforts towards creating a stable and consistent home-like environment (i.e. - modelling meal preparation or general housework)Managing crisis situations effectively using problem solving and de-escalation skillsCase management responsibilities as outlined by the Program Manager, including facilitating and supporting youths’ connections with their Natural SupportsModel respectful and appropriate relationships and professional boundaries with youth and staff teamWork collaboratively with all staff teams, reporting to the Program Supervisor and Program ManagerDaily documentation and formal report writing as requiredComplete any additional tasks as they are assigned
