Anmol Virsa is the organization behind Dhamak Bhangra, Calgary’s very own international Bhangra competition. Bhangra is a vibrant folk dance from the north Indian State of Punjab. With this event, we hope to bring you an enthralling event showcasing spectacular Bhangra entertainment from all across North America. Many young and passionate individuals will be given the opportunity to captivate members of the Calgary community with their exhilarating abilities. International Bhangra competitions are held worldwide today to celebrate one of the most profound traditions of the South Asian community. Calgary has been missing a Bhangra competition and we would like to fill the void with Dhamak an elite-level competition that spectators and teams can look forward to every year. Our intentions with Dhamak Bhangra are three-fold:1. To get youth actively engaged and motivated by exposing them to the potential of the competitive Bhangra circuit in North America.2. Bringing the South Asian community together for a grand celebration of their roots.3. Providing a superior venue to help Bhangra reach its greatest potential.The spirit that inhabits all members of the Punjabi community is the central component of our identity. As a community, we are people that come from a rich heritage that has made us industrious, determined, resilient, and jubilant. And we find that all of these qualities are best expressed through Bhangra.
