In this role I am accountable for defining material replenishment throughout the business. This means creating inventory models, forecasting consumption, creating future inventory projections, defining targets, and coordinating through policies, business processes and systems development in order to achieve the company objective to have globally optimised inventory.

I work for the global supply chain at Glencore Copper. My responsibilities include:Inventory modelling - I maintain the actual vs ideal inventory model for the purpose of maximising plant uptime while maintaining manageable supply chain costs. This includes scenario modelling. Inventory policy - I am responsible for the development and enforcement of the global inventory management policy. Software Platforms - I implement and maintain the specialised inventory management software platforms which form the backbone of our operations and performance management.

Project 2 (Nov 2017 – present): I am based at Barloworld Logistics Professional Services. My role is to stabilize and develop supply chain software solutions for some of Barloworld’s key clients. These include:• BMW • Isuzu • MAN Trucks • IDS • Exxaro • Imperial Cold Logistics • Sasol • Telkom • Avis / BudgetProject 1 (June 2016 – Nov 2017): I worked for IFS on an ERP system implementation at SAAB Grintek Defence. My role involved:Manufacturing – Mapping the production process against IFS functionality. I specified system functionality to handle production orders, shop floor reporting, subcontracting, MRP, and resource management.Supply Chain Planning – Introducing new tools for constraint based scheduling, forecasting, and inventory planning.Warehousing – Setting up various functionality such as receiving, issuing, floor stock replenishment, and inter-site distribution.Quality – Mapping the quality process against IFS functionality. I specified system functionality to handle quality standards, audits, non-conformance, material reviews, and inspection plans.

I was based at a discrete manufacturing plant. My role as a systems engineer involved: General process design and mapping - I designed the complete operating model for the planning department, as well as some logistics systems such as dynamic buffering and Kanban.Introduction of S&OP planning methodology - I worked in a team of 4 to introduce the first S&OP production planning methodology for WEIR Minerals Africa. The S&OP production system aligns production to customer demand on a long term scale. My section of the work was to convert demand into machine capacity detail.ERP systems development - I participated in 2 ERP roll outs (BAAN LN and SAP). My key responsibilities have been gap analysis and data integration between ERP and supporting systems. Visual Management - I designed and programmed the plant’s visual management tools.Developed scheduling tool - I designed and programmed the production scheduling tool currently in use.Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) - I've specified the requirements, scoped, and project managed the implementation of our Manufacturing Execution System (MES) (from integration with MRP to user interfaces). This is the system that guides the flow of material through machining. This was the topic of my master’s research.Managing Change - Both internally with business partners and between customers/suppliers. This involved keeping customers/suppliers up to date with changes in our process, supplying them with information they need, and negotiating workload for the plant.

I worked at the Afrox national supply chain planning department. My responsibilities included:- General short term cylinder planning. - Product requirement analysis for branches.- Ensuring cylinder availability.- Setting product replenishment levels and intervals.- Design of product replenishment process.- Participated in the roll-out of a statistical material replenishment tool.

I was on a 2 year rotation based program.Rotation 1: R&D Laboratory at the Afrox Gas Equipment Factory (GEF).My job was to modernise the GEF R&D Laboratory by updating testing processes and technology, so as to improve the integrity of test results and the speed at which testing can be done. This project served to prepare the laboratory for ISO accreditation. The aim was achieved by adapting key measurement equipment for PC based communication. The completed system was streamlined from data acquisition to formal result reporting. I designed the experiments based on ISO requirements. From there I specified layout, equipment, processes, data capturing, and reporting requirements.Rotation 2: Managing and executing continuous improvement projects at the Afrox Gas Operations Centre (GOC). Some projects included:Waste treatment - I designed and managed the construction of a 30kL oil separator for cost effective disposal of waste from the dissolved acetylene plant. The project included a project proposal, P&ID, layout design, costing, multiple contractor management, risk assessment, HAZZOP, equipment specification and commissioning, chemical sampling and testing, oil spill response, use of project management methodology and software, operating procedure design, maintenance lifecycle planning, ergonomics of design, and automation of pumping system. Efficiency - An expensive set of components are regularly being stripped and maintained by the workshop staff. I researched and specified a solution using ultrasonic cleaning that requires only minimal labour. Throughput - I did feasibility study on powder coating of cylinders, testing their new characteristics, and comparing them with conventionally painted cylinders.Machine design - I’ve designed a number of machines for various cylinder handling and testing tasks.Plant Layout and Process - I was part of a team that designed a new material flow and layout plan for the dissolved acetylene plant.
