About Joy Davis
After 33 rewarding years with the University of Victoria, I stepped away in 2017 to explore other opportunities in retirement. Writing Complicated Simplicity: Island Life in the Pacific Northwest (Heritage House, 2029, https://www.heritagehouse.ca/book/complicated-simplicity/ ) was a fascinating project. I continue to write, paint, sail, golf and enjoy four lovely grandkids. I stay active in the cultural heritage world through my ongoing involvement as associate editor with Museum Management and Curatorship. While much of my career at UVic has focused on professional education for museum and heritage practice with the Cultural Resource Management Program, I also have gained valuable experience in recent years in a series of extended interim senior management roles including as dean of Continuing Studies, and as director University Art Collections, the University Centre Farquhar Auditorium, Ceremonies and Events and most recently Community Relations. In August 2011 I completed a PhD in Educational Studies that enabled me to focus on the experience of museum professionals as they apply what they have learned in continuing professional education to their museum practice.Specialties: Instructional design and delivery, educational program planning and management, museum and cultural heritage education, learning transfer, project planning, human resource management, budget development and management.
