Joy May-Harris, currently Principal and Executive Director at Alliance Virgil Roberts Leadership Academy in the South Los Angeles community of Hyde Park, is an established instructional leader with a proven track record of improving academic outcomes in inner-city schools. She has more than 28 years of teaching and administrative leadership experience in LAUSD and charter schools. She previously served as Founding Principal at Alliance Jack H. Skirball Middle School and had excelled as the Assistant Principal at Alliance Judy Ivie Burton Technology Academy High School for two years prior. Early in her career, she also served as Social Studies Literacy Cadre leader at Audubon Middle School in Los Angeles. Ms. May-Harris holds a B.A. in African American Studies from Florida A&M University, and an M.A. in Educational Leadership from California State University, Northridge. Joy served as President of the Southern California chapter of Florida A&M University Alumni. She is also a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and is married with two children.
