About Joy Wahba

Joy Wahba is a Chief Executive Officer at Coffee Watch. She possess expertise in international development, ngos, capacity building, international relations, community development and 14 more skills. She is proficient in Arabic. Colleagues describe her as "I write this letter to recommend Joy Wahba in the highest possible terms. As Mighty Earth as Senior Campaign Director, I have had the pleasure of working with Joy on our campaign to end environmental and human rights abuses in the cocoa industry. In my many years of experience working at Greenpeace and previously at Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, Open Society, UNICEF, and two war crimes tribunals, I have rarely met someone as dedicated and engaging as Joy. She is thoughtful, responsible, meticulous, and maintains equanimity in the most disorienting crises of these oft-disrupted pandemic times. Nothing discourages her. She is determined, persistent, and tremendously hard-working. Moreover, I found her to be friendly, generous, enthusiastic, and patient with all our colleagues. Her aplomb and problem solving abilities are matched by and grounded in an ability to rapidly assess and understand challenges, make sense of them, and determine the best way forward. Most importantly, Joy stands out in my mind as one of the most intelligent people I have supervised in the past five years. In a fast-paced and challenging environment, often with minimal supervision, Joy proved exceptional in her ability to read, learn, grasp complex issues, conduct valuable research, and write – as quick and well as far more experienced staff I have worked with in my previous roles. I was particularly impressed by how well she understood the dynamics of major international environmental advocacy, contributing to difficult, high-risk, and hard hitting campaigns targeting multi-billion dollar industries. Joy undertook both non-legal and legal research and writing, drafting memoranda as well as press releases and open letters, writing emails for us to industry as well as government representatives and certification bodies. She was fully in charge of a project for us involving ranking and grading all platforms for sustainable chocolate across a variety of issues including traceability, deforestation, living income, child labor, and more – demonstrating her grasp of a wide range of sustainability challenges. She has represented Mighty Earth in a number of coalition NGO calls and one-on one with partner NGOs, showing real acumen on how to collaborate with other NGOs. Before supervising her at Mighty Earth, I had already met Joy briefly in Cambodia several years ago. At the time she worked with Indigenous peoples, supporting their fight for land rights; researching and documenting the impact of rights violations on Indigenous communities. At the time I already saw how she had come to understand the power of solidarity and collective resistance. Moving from one daunting challenge to the next, Joy joined Engineers Without Borders as policy and advocacy program officer in Malawi, to press for increased public funding for rural water development. She deepened there her grasp of how socio-economic harms are often intertwined with environmental problems. Beyond her stell" and "I had the pleasure of working alongside Joy as a Caseworker at Legal Assistance of Windsor. I immediately recognized Joy as an empathetic advocate who went above and beyond on every task and always considered the clients interests throughout her duties and decision making. She provided clients with support and comfort which went beyond what was required in her role as a caseworker - an example being her pursuit of a Human Rights claim on behalf of the client. Most importantly, Joy created a positive and nurturing work environment for myself and other students in the office. "
