As an independent contractor, I provided support to environmental charities in the areas of program design and implementation, and fund development (e.g., grant management, writing and budgeting). Clients included GreenLearning Canada Foundation and Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation.

Led change management, transitioning the organization from a $1M and 20+ staff operation to a $200K and 2.5 staff operation. Steadily grew the annual budget, doubling the revenue in 5 years and raised $3M to date without a fundraising team. Hired and supervised over 20 staff/interns, recruited 10 board members, and led the development and implementation of 2 strategic plans. Positioned EcoSpark as a key stakeholder and ENGO leader in Greenbelt-related provincial policy. EcoSpark is an environmental charity whose mission is to empower communities to take an active role in protecting and sustaining their local environment. We do this by giving people the tools for education, monitoring and influencing positive change.

In-house science expert for EcoSpark's programs. Managed the Monitoring the Moraine program and secured program budget ($400K to $150K) through funder stewardship and grant-writing, and in-kind support ($18K). Managed a 25-member multi-stakeholder advisory committee to effect positive change at the Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan Review in 2015.

Coordinated Check Your Watershed Day, a stream survey where volunteers work alongside water professionals to determine baseflow throughout an entire watershed. From 2006 to 2011, the project took place across 1320+ streams in 14 watersheds with 17 partners and 428 volunteers. Partners included CAs, stewardship councils, community groups, ENGOs, MNR and MOE.

Delivered EcoSpark's air and water monitoring programs across the GTA. Engaged and trained volunteers to become citizen scientists. Provided coordination and education outreach to community members.

The Ontario Stream Monitoring and Research Team (SMART) networks provide a forum for exchange of ideas, data and science about flowing waters.

The Biodiversity Education and Awareness Network (BEAN) connects scientists and governments with teachers, parents and students to provide education and practical actions to recover and prevent the loss of biodiversity in the province.

The OGA is a watchdog and defender of Ontario’s innovative Greenbelt. Our vision is to grow and strengthen the Greenbelt landscape to enable a future with clean water resources, thriving farms, local food sources, habitat for wildlife and trails for nature lovers.
