As I was the only Registered Dietitian in the Hospital of Filadelfia, I was responsible for all areas that are part of the job description of a Dietitian.In the Kitchen my job was to: Evaluate the former 5 week cycle menu for staff and patients and make appropriate changes.Assist cooks in menu changes for patients that require special meals to meet there needs and tolerances. Supervise cooks during preparation and serving, providing answers to there questions and giving advise if needed. Bake bread and snacks for patients with diabetes and bread for patients with celiac disease, Regarding the hospitalized patients, my job was to:Visit all patients and counsel those who require special diets, meeting there specific needs. Identify patients at risk and offer supplemental feeding. Should the physician indicate tube feeding, provide appropriate formula and calculate needs of patient. Supervise preparation and administration of formula. Patients that were not hospitalized had the opportunity to make a personal appointment with me in my office. They received the following services:Nutritional assessment, measuring weight, height and abdominal circumference. Written guidelines according to there needs (weight loss, weight gain, diabetes, dyslipidemia were the most common).Advice on how to achieve there goals step by step with follow ups every 2 to 3 weeks as needed.Another part of my job was to evaluate the guidelines at the Hospital, update them or make new recommendations based on newer evidence.

The program had 5 classes and a final evaluation. - Identify residents at nutritional risk using MNA (Mini Nutritional Assessment) and provide adequate supplementation. - Visit residents and inquire about satisfaction with Food and Nutrition services. - Teach the subject "Nutrition for seniors" in a course for residential care aids and other people that were interested in the course.
