I focus on legal issues arising from the design and construction of industrial, commercial, institutional, and infrastructure facilities, and on the award and performance of, and claims arising from, a wide range of government contracts. While I have very extensive litigation and arbitration experience (both as an advocate and as a neutral arbitrator), I spend most of my time keeping my clients out of trouble -- via front-end contract advice, negotiation, and drafting, and "real time" advice to resolve or mitigate disputes as they arise during a project.I combine a deep understanding of the law in these areas with a thorough and practical understanding of business realities. This informs all that I do, and my goal -- always -- is to provide clients with cost-effective advice that makes both business and legal sense. I am fully conversant with all forms of project delivery, including EPC, other design-build, EPCM, BOT, all forms of integrated project delivery, and projects involving shared or delegated design. I have practical experience with a wide spectrum of project types: building or expanding hospitals, libraries, educational facilities, major biopharmaceutical facilities, oil and gas facilities, other industrial process plants, transportation and other infrastructure improvements, commercial buildings, developing townhouses, historical renovations, hazardous waste and munitions remediations with the federal government or PRPs as the client, and developing sewage waste-to-diesel facilities.I advise on and draft contracts for green (sustainable or high-performance) projects, and have also written and spoken extensively on the particular challenges such projects present, and on practical contract terms and measures to promote their success.
