Stop Stigma Now wants to eradicate the stigma around medically assisted treatment of opioid addiction. We want everyone taking methadone (or similar medications) and their family members to feel proud of what they have accomplished in finding the strength and courage to overcome an addiction to opiates. Most of all we hope for each person in treatment to experience a renewed sense of self-respect. To this end we will aggressively and publicly confront unfounded, erroneous information regarding medically assisted addiction treatment whenever it appears in newspapers, magazines or professional journals. We inform the general public, the court systems, and the medical, nursing and counseling professions about the overwhelming scientific evidence supporting methadone maintenance treatment for opiate addiction. Ultimately, we want to stop the stigma and prejudice directed at both the treatment and the patients.Stop Stigma Now is a program of the National Alliance for Medication Assisted Recovery.

Oversees all educational components of the MARS project and is responsible for coordinating Core Training in: Advanced Addiction, Recovery and Treatment for MAT patients. Coordinates with peer leaders to carry out program activities and provides planning and oversight for program related educational activities, creating new educational components when needed and updating throughout the year. Outreach for all trainings is conducted by the Project Coordinator including mentoring and training peer leaders. Responsible for the management, updating, and writing of web content for the MARS Website. Supports creating linkages and collaborations with local organizations and represents MARS at outside, public meetings such as acting as an invited representative at a SAMHSHA/CSAT roundtables and meetings on peer recovery support services.
