I designed and implemented an ergonomic solution to tool storage, including catalog documentation, to improve production workflow and reduce tooling and labor costs. Machinists were able to find tools 9x faster, which decreased idle time by 15%. I created an Excel program to eliminate delay in producing cost estimates for a major line of products. My responsibilities included performing a cost-benefit analysis for improving tool storage, recording measurements of lathe chuck jaws and other tools, creating a tool catalog spreadsheet in Excel, creating a cost calculation program in Excel using Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), and engaging the sales team in training to launch the cost calculation program. This experience involved applicable OSHA regulations, Oracle database software, and principles of industrial engineering and engineering economics; it required skills in oral and written communication, mechanical and electrical measurement equipment, and Excel VBA coding.

I investigated critical detection gaps in the image processing of cancer biopsies by addressing the need for a high-throughput online image processing procedure and for modeling a clinician’s satisfaction of search error.I formed procedures and performance metrics for optimizing optical clearance of thick tissue, using ultrasonication and clearance agents to reduce light-scattering.This experience involved quantitative diffuse reflectance spectroscopy and imaging, structured illumination microscopy, light sheet microscopy, fluorescence lifetime imaging, and tiled pyramidal tiff file structures; it required skills in ImageJ and Matlab coding.
