About Joy Cooper

Experienced development executive with a successful track record raising funds for organizations in the arts, cultural, education and human service sectors. These organizations include the New York School of Interior Design, Borough of Manhattan Community College, Theatre Development Fund, Theatre Communications Group, the United Jewish Appeal and Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn College, among others. I have leadership and hands-on experience in all aspects of development including the research, identification, cultivation, solicitation (face to face, grantwriting, direct mail and online) and stewardship of individual and institutional funders at all levels of support. Additionally, I am an accomplished grant writer and have extensive experience running galas which have raised up to $1.2 million. On the management side, I am an excellent team builder and have run development departments that are both established and less established. As such, I have hired, supervised and mentored development and support staff. For over 15 years, I was actively involved with the New York Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP). I co-chaired the Career Mentoring track for Fundraising Day in New York between 2012-14. Prior to that, I served on the AFP Board as Vice President for Professional Advancement where I planned and promoted AFP's year-round professional development programs for fundraising professionals at all levels of experience. Additionally, I developed AFP's first mentoring program and managed the organization's biannual resume/career clinics. I also served as a mentor for up and coming development professionals.I am a certified Life Coach and am DISC certified, and received my training through the Coach Training Alliance.
