Miss Joy Townsend, Co-founder, Director and CEO of Destiny Education graduated with a BEd (Hons) from King Alfred’s College (University of Southampton), one of the top teacher training colleges in the UK. She furthered her qualifications with a PGCert in special educational needs and an MA (Ed).Initially a primary school teacher, her passion for seeing every child reach their potential led her to teach in a school for students with emotional and behavioural difficulties. This was a challenging but rewarding time, one that inspired Joy to want to share her learning and experiences with others. Joy co-founded Destiny Education in 2001 to enable this and now she travels extensively conducting training workshops for teachers, principals and management. DE also works with aspiring international schools; evaluating, planning and facilitating their transformation. Management and teachers say that Joy is a talented communicator, especially the way she makes educational theories and concepts understandable, relevant and practical for teachers of all backgrounds. Joy is the author of Fab Phonics, an innovative method of teaching phonics. There are currently 4 levels of books, workbooks and flashcards, as well as an on-line programme. Joy has the advantage of international experience, as well as immersion in the Indian education system for 20+ years. Joy has been instrumental in writing pre-school and primary curricula, as well as designing teaching aids to enable interactive, multi-sensory learning. Her current research focus is continuous professional development for teachers.
