For instance, we had a challenge where a customer wanted a custom product that would seamlessly integrate with their interface; Joy invented a new web "views" interface to create a unified user experience with the client's look/feel. This elegant solution (which took her about 2 months to conceive design and deploy brought in a partner sale that grew to over half a million dollars yearly, and became the foundation of The Coding Suite and The Compliance Suite interfaces, and has allowed Wolters Kluwer to go to market rapidly with dozens of products across multiple divisions spanning health care, life sciences, benefits management, HR, payroll, and more. She has a can-do attitude and an ability to learn and assimilate new systems, both internally and with external client platfors. As an example, we were short staffed and didn't have the budget to hire a database specialist, so Joy simply took it upon herself to learn SQL and deploy a database that served as our product standard for several years. This included learning on-the-fly complex medical coding and payment terminology, and an end-user Code Explorer interface that is an integral component of the Coding Suite and also a landing page for more information from partner solutions. Most designers simply would have tabled the project until the resources were available, but not Joy! And the system she built was flexible enough to handle yearly regulatory updates that many of our competitors struggle to manage. Finally, I want to talk about her presentation. Whether it is a written report, a presentation for management, documentation of an internal process, or an end-user interface, Joy's design skills and understanding of end user experience is unsurpassed. Very often, it is faster for her to prototype a working product than it is for the rest of us to write the specifications and business case. It is often my job to translate customer complaints to feature requests, but I gave up drawing screens for her after our first 6 months of working together. This is because she always presents us with an interface that is so much more elegant and functional than anything we could have dreamed up!"
