I was recruited by Chris Wootten from ILC with whom I had worked with in Financial Club and by the owner who passed away last year.What was needed then was someone with a good business sense, good people and management skills that could run a club of 160 employees, develop the business (membership, F&B and sports and recreation) as well as consult and manage future projects such as villa complex, polo and horse riding school, real estate for industries such as banking, pharmacies and mini market.The main issue the club had was that it was sampled on a proper country club as you would find in Singapore, Hong Kong or Jakarta but was not adapted to the mentality of the residents of Bali. The rules were found too strict and the concept was misunderstood by most. My task was first and foremost to train the staff to club concepts and services conducting regular training and implementing SOP's and service principles. I was also socializing a lot with the members within the club as well as with the community outside trying to change our image from what was considered a snobbish club to amore relaxed atmosphere assimilated maybe to a beach club. I also was fully responsible for the presenting P&L, budgets and Capex.The results were pretty good actually. The frequentation from the members increased. They called in their friends to join the club; our events were starting to becoming recognized amongst the whole community. Our income increased both in F&B, Membership and sports and recreation.
