By focusing on engineers responsible for quality in manufacturing instead of statisticians who thought Minitab was a toy, I was quite successful growing the commercial business to parity with our academic sales and was promoted to Sales Manager with responsibility for commercial and academic sales teams. That bet on the quality market turned out to be a pretty good one when Six Sigma reached fever pitch in the 90’s.
