I graduated College with a Bachelor’s degree in General Bio. To my dismay, this degree is way too general to find a career in Healthcare. So I left college and moved back to my mom's house, to my twin bunkbed, and my comic book collection. With debt quickly accumulating and feeling the disappointment and disownment of the parentals, I stumbled upon the field of Medical Technology. Egads!!! Maybe now I can find a reputable job in Healthcare (and make my parents somewhat proud). But this career was so specific nobody knew what this profession was or what I would even do. And to this day, there are still people that have no clue what I do. Kekeke. I performed my clinicals at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. But I found it odd being 25-30 years younger than the other Medical Technologists/Clinical Lab Scientists during my time. I guess some call that job security. Hooray? But then I thought, I don't want to do all this work by myself when everyone retires. (In all seriousness, the shortage in lab personnel is a scary real thing). And in all the other places I have worked, the narrative has always been the same: Aging lab workforce and being the youngest CLS in the department. My struggle...my cross. Having no choice but to learn and being mentally/physically coerced into trying different things, I have worn many hats in the clinical lab - an oddity for an MT/CLS/MLS. Maybe some places were desperate... but I digress! I've worked and have experience in:● Laboratory IT / LIS / Informatics● Project Management● Point of Care Testing (POCT)● Laboratory and Operations Manager● Quality and Compliance Officer● Customer Service● HLA Platelet Immunology● Flow Cytometry● EIA, ELISA, IFA● Serology● Special Chemistry● Special Hematology● Toxicology● Molecular Testing● Education● Consultation● Web3 and Crypto Research AnalysisSome areas have been okay fun. Others were just fun. And others were super fun. Like with anything, there are good things and bad things. Along the way, I've learned it's hard to find good coworkers. But it's even harder to find good bosses. You never truly know what you have until it is gone and I remember all those who have helped me along the way. Any spare time I get, I try reading underneath the underneath, laughing until it hurts, and everything in between. I like to jam on the guitar, play basketball, eat, try different foods, and eat again. Friends are the family we choose to have and my ultimate goal is to be the very best person I can for my family, wife, son, and daughter. ^_^
