Sole IT person for K-8 charter school: 60+ staff,400+ students, 150 machine,servers (Windows 2003 + Linux).

Roles: Principal Engineer as part of our disaster recover and QE testing infrastructure team, senior manager Manager of engineering for web hosting, senior manager for portal systems (our customized start page), and senior site manager in charge of the server infrastructure in our Pasadena data center. Staff managed ranged from 5 to 20, including a number of remote staff.

Worked on Tech's campus portal project that brought in Campus Pipeline software. Brought up first test installation of software, proposed and demo'd architecture to minimize single points of failure in portal. Designed and implemented revision control for Portal content using CVS and rsync.

Multiple roles as part of CNN’s Internet Technologies group, which handled the infrastructure for major web sites such as CNN.com, cnnmoney.com, and cnnsi.com, and also other AOL Time Warner sites, such as HBO.com, NASCAR.com, and CartoonNetwork.com. Roles: Vice President, Operations, CNN.com, Vice President, Technology Planning, NASCAR.com, Vice President of Technology, CNNSI.com, Director of CNN's web farm.

Position was with 'CICNet', one of the earliest ISPs - this one was run by and for the Big 10 universities in the midwest. Ultimately ended up as a technical advisor to the CIOs of the Big 10 schools. Co-wrote an NSF grant on "rural datafication," to bring Internet to under-served communities. Documented and implemented dial-up services. Provided security consulting to customers.

The CERT - Computer Emergency Response Team - was one of the earliest organizations working in Internet Security. Based at the Software Enginering Institute (SEI) at Carnegie Mellon, I worked with organizations that had experienced security problems.Also co-edited an early work on security policies - RFC 1244, the "Site Security Handbook".

Software developer for the reknowned Xerox Star - the system that tried to commericialize the work done at Xerox PARC. The Star had a 17" b&w bitmapped display, Ethernet, network file, printing, email - all in 1981. (Mac came out in '84). I worked on the "desktop" part of Star - the icons, desktop, and folders part of the user interface.
