J.P. Bernbach is a writer and producer based in Los Angeles. He began his career in the 1990s as an assistant editor for Academy Award winning filmmaker D.A. Pennebaker, working on five films including Jimi Hendrix: Live at Woodstock and Branford Marsalis: The Music Tells You. He is an executive producer on Citizen K (2019), a biographical feature about the Russian oligarch, Mikhail Khodorkovsky, directed by Academy Award winner Alex Gibney (Taxi to the Dark Side, 2007). Since 2016, he has worked closely with the Academy Award winning screenwriter Ronald Harwood (The Piano, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly), preparing a “bible” for a feature film about the 1938 Munich Agreement.In 2014 J.P. wrote and co-produced Return to Hope, an award-winning multimedia narrative about the war in Afghanistan, which premiered at that year's NATO Summit.From 2006 to 2011 he divided his time between New York and Brussels, where he co-founded and served as managing partner of Concept to Content, LLC, a communications consultancy that provided a wide range of English language communications services, primarily to non-Anglophone clients, including Toyota, Fortis, SAP, Pfizer, and NATO.Over the years, he has also worked extensively as a freelance writer/producer/director of non-fiction films for a multitude of corporate and institutional clients. From 2007 through 2009, he produced and directed a series of fifteen short-subject video profiles of entrepreneurs throughout Europe. He also worked as a writer and segment producer for various television networks, including AMC, MSNBC, and CourtTV.During 2008 presidential campaign cycle, J.P. served as a spokesperson for both Democrats Abroad and the Democratic party in Belgium. His responsibilities involved informing the press and the public, briefing European officials and organizations about then-Senator Obama in particular, as well as Democratic Party policies and the US electoral process in general. He frequently appeared on television and radio, participated in forums and debates as a representative of the Democratic party, and wrote about US politics for the website of the Belgian newspaper, De Standaard.From 2011-2015 was a board member of DL21C (Democratic leadership for the 21st Century), where he served on the steering committee and as chairman of the foreign affairs committee.J.P. is also the author of Beyond Reason: Debunking Conservative Lies, Delusions and Falsehoods (Astor & Blue Editions, 2016).He is a graduate of Columbia University (B.A. magna cum laude).
