Then, in August 2017, my son Julian was born, and my wife Ineke and I were looking for a way to announce this momentous occasion to the world. But while browsing birth card websites and Pinterest for a design, we found that many cards were very similar, generic, or cliché. And to make a custom design was very expensive. To speak not of the additional costs (€100+) of printing and sending 50 cards and envelopes to family and friends. So we decided to create an animated video in which we reveal his name and photo and share it online with family and friends. The production of the video obviously took some work and investment (and I’ll come back to that later) but the distribution was instant and easy. At the push of a button it was there for people to see, like and comment on. Also, there was something special about the way the information built up. A printed card shows everything in 1 or 2 pages, but a video provides much more creative ways and builds up information more dramatically. And hey, it’s fun : )The reactions on both Julian’s birth and his birth video were overwhelming. And it got me thinking: How can people who are not trained as professional designers or animators still use animation in a fun, personal and affordable way? And send not only birth cards, but any type of card: Birthday, Thank You, Anniversary, Love, Congratulations, and more. That's why we created a variety of animations that integrate personalization (names, ages, photo, etc) into their designs. Instantly.This was the foundational idea that lead to TROFY.
