About Jean (Jp) Philius

I consider myself an artist-founder, a multi-hyphenated socio-technologist with an interdisciplinary approach. My work synthesizes systems thinking, AI, machine learning and interactive design. Lately, I’ve been obsessed with decoding the art of gathering, compounding human connections, and reimagining our socio-technical systems from first principles. When I’m not deep in contemplative thought or ‘poisoning my mind with humanity’ (as Kurt Vonnegut once put it), I’m in build mode—crafting tools for today’s gatherers, the avant-garde scene-makers, and the human dot-connectors shaping our social fabric. My driving force is captured by the essence of the Carl Sagan quote below:'....to a restless few—drawn, by a craving they can hardly articulate or understand, to undiscovered lands and new worlds.'Herman Melville, in Moby Dick, spoke for wanderers in all epochs and meridians: 'I am tormented with an everlasting itch for things remote. I love to sail forbidden seas…' – Carl Sagan

  • Career Break
    Health And Well-Being
    Career Break Jan 2022 - Jan 2023
Creative and Spiritual SabbaticalIn a tech culture that glorifies "move fast and break things," I chose to slow down—a radical act of agency and rebellion against the pace of modern innovation. This creative and spiritual sabbatical was a deliberate pause to reflect, recalibrate, and explore. As Paul Cilliers, South African philosopher and complexity theorist, once said, "It is exactly when one would think that being fast is what is required that slowness proves its worth." This period taught me the value of intentionality and depth, laying the groundwork for my next chapter of building with purpose. Most importantly, this journey was made possible by the unwavering support of my life partner of 20 years, https://www.linkedin.com/in/majerryp/
