J. Phillip Cooper (“Phil”) is an entrepreneurial leader with strengths in marketing and business development, deal structuring / negotiation, acquisition / strategic partnering, and financial engineering. In June, 2006, he retired from CRA, where he was Vice Chairman & EVP. CRA (NASDAQ: CRAI) is a leading provider of economic and financial expertise and management consulting services. At CRA, Dr. Cooper was responsible for the successful identification, negotiation, and integration of more than 10 acquisitions. In the 3 years he doubled as its CFO, Dr. Cooper led 2 successful, follow-on public equity offerings and an innovative convertible bond offering. In his 6 years at the firm, CRA quadrupled in revenue and quintupled in share price. After retiring in 2006, he volunteered in MIT’s Venture Mentoring Service. Dr. Cooper currently serves on 3 Boards of Directors, is on the Board of Advisers of others, and is an active member of Boston Harbor Angels. His charitable activities include the American Technion Society and the Whitehead Institute. Prior to joining CRA, he had leadership roles in a number of entrepreneurial ventures, such as CEO of: Newstar Technologies in Toronto, Ontario; Clinical Information Advantages, Inc., in Waltham, MA; and Applied Expert Systems in Cambridge, MA. He had been particularly active in various e-commerce, software, and information business segments, domestically and internationally. Previously, Dr. Cooper served as EVP of Standard & Poor’s Corp. in New York and Senior VP, General Manager, and a Board member of Interactive Data Corp., then in Waltham, MA, and owned by Chase Manhattan Bank. He has also been Assistant Professor of Business Economics at the Graduate School of Business of The University of Chicago. Dr. Cooper earned a B.Com. in Commerce & Finance at The University of Toronto and a Ph.D. in Economics at M.I.T., with specializations in Finance and Econometrics.Specialties: Finance, Marketing, M&A, Strategy, Negotiation
