Over two decades ago, I decided I was going to be an IT Guy. Little did I know how far that journey was going to lead me. I quickly dove headfirst into my career. I had always tinkered with electronics and new technology, and with some formalized training, I began getting paid for it! I joined the MSP world early in my career and this allowed me to gain a lot of experience in a short window of time. At one point I had accomplished so many certifications, my email signature was longer than most emails I wrote. Don’t believe me? Here are the ones I can remember….• MCP• MCSA• MCSE• CCENT• CCNA• CNA• NetApp Storage Professional• Mitel• VCPI think you get the point! Even with those certifications, I wasn’t complete. It took mentorship to show me the business side of the IT World. That’s when my career started taking off. I began consulting with the business on IT Risk and security issues, essentially advising the business on the risk, the cost to fix, and ultimately, prioritizing those tasks to work with the business to be incrementally better each day. As the industry shifted to cloud and security, so has my career. Once again advising on risk management and security, but also helping to identify technical debt, budgeting for the future and developing goals and strategies to mitigate and eliminate risks while maintaining business productivity. Afterall, there is no business if we don’t empower our employees to do their best.
