I became interested in water jet propulsion as part of negotiations and due diligence for purchase of an aluminum jet river boat manufacturer. With a background in the hydroelectric industry, I became immediately interested in improving the efficiency of jet boats. I completed theoretical development and filed patent applications with broad claims on such systems, inlet duct design methods, and nozzle regulation methods to maintain pump efficiency. Found investors and a manufacturing partner. Produced prototype and installed in a demonstration boat. Recruited competent engineers, managers and technicians to meet the numerous technical, operational, and management challenges. Re-engineered and/or replaced most components of the system to achieve performance of their designated function. Enhanced original manure processing to incorporate food wastes, grease-trap wastes, and other wet organic wastes that could not be landfilled. Granted patents for slurry pump and agitation system for anaerobic digesters equipped with biofilm and for reactors using submerged fluorescent lamps to culture algae in the clarified wastewater. Managed the development system for using process heat to pasteurize the digester effluent, extract ammonia gas, and enhance the clarification processes. Managed the design and implementation system for source separation of wet wastes. Designed and managed the development of trucks to pick up and dump containers of mixed liquid and solids and deliver the contents into the treatment system.

Directed the design, development and manufacturing of hydraulic turbine-generator systems for installation in commercial small hydroelectric developments. Developed segmented wax assembly method for investment casting turbine runners in stainless steel. Managed the design, construction and initial operation of three facilities, which combined all of these elements. These facilities were described as a "showcase of small hydroelectric development" by State of Montana officials.

Bought into company which manufactured, sold, installed, and maintained independent hydroelectric systems on remote ranches and retreats. Wrote and presented a business plan that was funded by Control Data Capital Corporation, a venture capital firm.

Designed, prototyped, and won acceptance for improved mechanical components that increased both production rates and operational control, producing several million dollars in cost savings. Served as liaison between production management and corporate R&D.

Served as Communications Officer on US Navy ship.
