In the Drosophila Approaches to Cancer Laboratory of Dr. Marcos Vidal, we studied different aspects of cancer using the fruitfly Drosophila melanogaster as a model organism. Particularly, my research focused on the study of Focal Adhesion Kinase (FAK) protein. This protein is highly expressed in many human cancers and therefore, it is normally associated with progression of the disease. However, FAK also has some functions against tumour formation. In order to investigate this duality, we studied FAK functions within Drosophila cancer models that mimic human cancer scenarios.
