As a technical lead, I designed and guided all major technical decisions for the team including the design and security of our data platform, data pipeline infrastructure, and data warehouse using the Agile methodology and software engineering best practices. My main focus in this role was to solidify our data platform and support its growing usage for reporting and analysis. In 2021 we also started implementing data quality tests into our pipelines and created an automated data docs site.I also took on some mentorship responsibilities for our Data Engineers. In this area I focused on creating growth opportunities and created a ton of documentation around best practices and workflows.

As a Data Engineer, I built the Python ELT framework we use for all of our data pipelines and migrated all of our legacy pipelines (SSIS & single-use Python scripts) & databases to a new centralized data warehouse (Postgres RDS). This move saved us over $250,000/yr in licensing costs alone.I also created the first automated spatial pipelines (see apps.boston.gov/vision-zero) and most of the pipelines that power our open data portal (data.boston.gov).Over the summer, I had the opportunity to manage our data engineering summer fellows program and we made a tool for the transportation department: boston.gov/mbta-heatmap
