After training as a chemical engineer and a doctorate in biotechnology, Jean-Michel Portefaix was recruited by the CNRS as a business manager and then head of the partnership and development department of the Languedoc-Roussillon delegation for around ten years.He then joined the University of Montpellier as Director of Partnerships, where he was involved in setting up the regional innovation ecosystem based on the new tools created as part of the investments for the future programme (SATT, Carnot label, etc.). He was also in charge of the university's international relations and the search for national, European and international funding.He then focused his international career by joining the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, first in Oslo in 2015 as a science and technology attaché, and then in Havana from September 2019 as part of a scientific and academic cooperation programme. In this capacity, he has developed various operations to promote French expertise (support for cooperation projects, organisation of seminars and study trips, etc.).His activities have enabled him to acquire a very good knowledge of the French innovation system and the players involved, as well as of the national, European and international funding available for the development of bilateral and international partnerships. In May 2023, he was appointed to Dublin (Ireland) by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs as an international expert in innovation and applied research to develop cooperation in these fields between the two countries.
