I have worked in VAT (Value Added Tax) for my whole career. I started at HM Customs & Excise, where I spent time as a visiting officer, enquiries officer and manager of a deregistration section.After HMC&E, I worked in practice for Coopers & Lybrand, PwC and BDO Stoy Hayward. After BDO, I spent 18 months in industry working for NSK, a large international as European VAT Manager.After NSK, I joined VATease, an independent VAT consultancy that supplies VAT Technical Support services to Practice and Industry, and then Dains, a vibrant regional accountant. After Dains, I worked for BTG-Tax, an independent tax advice consultancy, part of the Begbies Traynor Group.I now work for Gap Inc as the Global VAT Senior Manager.I currently manage Global VAT compliance for Gap Inc. I oversee local compliance teams in China, India, Japan, Cambodia, Vietnam and others. I directly manage VAT compliance in Mexico, Canada and Europe (UK, Netherlands, France and Italy, with some legacy details in other EU member states). I am involved in Sales & Use Tax declarations for a number of US states. I also assist in managing Customs & Logistics matters in Europe. I have worked on the implementation of a new ERP, on the separation and sale of several businesses and on the winding up of business activities and entities.Specialities: I have experience in advising Clients on partial exemption, special methods, dispute resolution, VAT assessment review & challenge, representation at VAT tribunal and assisting with complex VAT return preparation. I frequently advise on complex VAT liability issues. I have spent the last 14 years working in retail - including sourcing, international logistics and M&A - in the UK, Europe and many countries across the world.I have advised clients in the Not-for-profit sector, entertainment industry, gambling industry, opticians, land & property sector and legal services providers.Alongside my career, I ran a mobile disco & entertainment agency business for 30 years.I am currently a Town Councillor on Burntwood Town Council and a District Councillor on Lichfield District Council. At Lichfield District Council, I am Chair of the Audit Committee. I am a trustee and committee chair for a local community hall, where I also run a monthly Community Cinema.
