I am a scientist entrepreneur. My professional goal is to address social needs through technologies developed by research in the life sciences. Since 2014 I work as a freelance consultant on entrepreneurship and innovation in health and since 2016 I am CEO of Àvida Biotech (more on it below). I trained as a molecular biologist, obtained a PhD in Biology and worked for several years as a biomedical researcher in industry and in academia. At 37 I moved away from the lab and became part of the managing team at the Barcelona Science Park, where I led a team of over 100 scientists and managed a budget of over 6 million euros. My job required skills in business development, marketing, human resources management and finance, of which I had none at the time I started. I have founded two biotech companies, and have helped several other research teams to start their own companies through mentoring and consulting.My latest venture, Àvida Biotech, is developing affordable drugs to prevent and treat neglected and emerging infectious diseases. Àvida Biotech is aligned with four of the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals. Impact is a central guiding principle in every effort that I have undertaken since leaving my last third-party employment.
