About Jasper Van Loon
In 2009 I made a switch from a scientific career in the field of Earth Observation to the Netherlands Space Office. My main task is to translate the needs of (potential) users of satellite data within The Netherlands towards ESA and EU and keep these users informed about the new possibilities in the field of Earth Observation. To do this, I need to communicate with policy officers, entrepeneurs, scientists, engineers and many others.Apart from my professional career, I have spent a lot of time as volunteer in several boards of societal organisations, e.g. scouting, volleyball, NGO, a political organisation, etc.

Using the algorithms I developed, it is possible to re-weight data sets in a statistical optimal way (Variance Component Estimation). As part of my MSc program, I went on internship at the Danish National Survey and Cadastre (KMS), presently part of the Danish National Space Center. My primary task was to clean the gravity data base of the National Gravity Data Base (NGK) from erroneous data. This was done by comparing them to geoid models and independent altimetric data.
