While I continue to lead technology for the company and recommend technology solutions for our clients, I’ve also restructured the project management team, improved company processes and standardized practices. I partner with our director of finance to provide greater visibility into financial and project status across the company and have implemented an agency management system. I help acquire and retain new projects from clients including: MINI, Aruba Tourism Authority, ASA, MFS, AMG, Converse, Harvard Magazine and Living PlanIT. • Beam Interactive
    Executive Director, Technology
    Beam Interactive Oct 2009 - May 2014
    Boston, Ma, Us
I continued to improve technology at BEAM and began building the technical leadership team by mentoring several senior developers on the team and helping them to take ownership of projects and specific team capabilities. During this time, I doubled the technology team to 16 members. I also began focusing on the design and architecture of our marketing analytics platform, TrakNet, and led the data architecture and prototype development of the system. While focusing on team development and technology efficiency I also continued to help acquire and retain new projects from clients including: MINI, Saucony, Pabst Blue Ribbon/Colt 45, Virgin Mobile, Boost Mobile, Greater Boston Food Bank. For these projects, I was responsible for estimating, forecasting and managing technical budgets and deliverables.
  • Beam Interactive
    Managing Director, Technology
    Beam Interactive Aug 2005 - Oct 2009
    Boston, Ma, Us
I was recruited by one of the partners at BEAM in 2005 to lead and grow their technical capability. My goals were to create a culture of expert technical consulting and development, integrate technology with the company’s already strong marketing and creative capability and represent our technical capability with clients and new business prospects. I tripled the team size in the first two years and developed clear offerings of application development, data management and UX development. I led technical consulting and development of large design and development projects for Comcast, Bed Bath & Beyond, Deutsche Bank and Virgin Mobile. I also led the development of a system to collect, connect, manage and report on user interactions and marketing performance data across channels that enabled greater optimization of our marketing programs.
  • Euro Rscg 4D
    Sr. Software Engineer
    Euro Rscg 4D Sep 2003 - Aug 2005
    Amstelveen, Nl
In 2003 I joined a team at Euro RSCG 4D that focused on .Net and SQL Server development. In this position I led a team of developers working with .Net, SQL Server and cold fusion development for brands such as Lexmark Printers, Symantec and Royal Caribbean. I specialized in data management and reporting as well as data support for applications. I was part of the client management team for Lexmark and built a strong relationship with their marketing team. As web technology continued to develop and become better defined, I successfully led the front-end development team through the transition from table based HTML development into the world of CSS based Web Standards. This required a lot of reading, discussions and training as it was a large change to the way the web was being built.
  • Circle.Com
    Sr. Software Engineer
    Circle.Com Sep 2000 - Aug 2003
    Us
Circle.com was a small creative marketing agency that had recently merged with a technical partner and was building a full service digital agency. This was my first experience working with strong marketing and creative teams and I found that I really enjoyed it. My primary responsibilities were team management, client management, data architecture, COM component development in VB6 and MS SQL 2000 database development. I managed a team of 5 developers in a multi-year project to move 23 branded websites for Campbell Soup Company and Pepperidge Farm from ColdFusion to ASP. During this time, I designed and developed an OLAP system that combined click-stream analysis with registration information and allowed site usage by consumers to be examined both within and across brands. I worked closely with the marketing and creative teams to present new initiatives to the client and to enhance the ways in which the client was using technology to benefit marketing efforts and to build consumer brand loyalty.
  • Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (Lumcon)
    Information Technology Manager
Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (Lumcon) Sep 1998 - Aug 2000
I continued my learning and exploration of science and computing by leading and supporting all technology needs for the Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON) facility in Cocodrie, LA. I took on the role of supporting all Faculty, Staff and Students with scientific/educational computing. I was also responsible for installing multiple weather stations and collecting and managing meteorological and oceanographic data. While at LUMCON I developed one of the first weather station web sites that displayed real time values in both graphical and tabular form. I also built a web based instrument inventory and maintenance system on a Microsoft platform and architected and managed building a Distance Learning Classroom that connected the facility to many universities in Louisiana. While at LUMCON, I focused on learning more about web development and relational databases and became both a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) and Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA).
  • University Of Delaware
    Campus Information Technology Associate
University Of Delaware Jan 1995 - Aug 1998
    Newark, De, Us
Although I loved the scientific research I was doing, I had an equal interest in technology and in 1995 the technology landscape started to change with the introduction of the early web. While my wife was completing her doctorate, I decided to combine my love of science and technology by providing technical support to the Faculty, Students and Staff at the College of Marine Studies in Lewes, DE. During this time, I supported all hardware and software needs and taught multiple seminars on computing and applications. I spent time understanding and teaching the students and faculty about this new thing called "The World Wide Web".
  • Various Locations
    Biological Oceanographer
    Various Locations Jan 1989 - Dec 1994
I started doing research in college through a Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF). I began as a research assistant in a lab focusing on developing and testing experimental protocols for studying phytoplankton in the ocean. As an undergraduate I was part of research programs in the Arctic Ocean, Ross Sea Antarctica and on the ice in the Canadian Arctic. In graduate school I focused my research on bacterial processes in the Equatorial Pacific Ocean. Through research, I learned techniques for collecting and managing large datasets, troubleshooting complex processes and instruments (HPLC) and detailed planning and packing for extended research cruises. After graduate school, I continued my research while living in northern Norway for a year. During this time, I worked with researchers from around the world including the Institute of Marine Research in Bergen, University of Tennessee, University of Delaware and Oregon State University on a series of Polar Research cruises. My focus was on microbial and phytoplankton biomass and production using radio-isotopes. My work included 8 weeks in the Ross Sea, Antarctica (Jan and Dec), 3 weeks in the North Atlantic and 8 weeks aboard the USCGC Polar Sea on her historic expedition from Alaska to Iceland through the North Pole.In my oceanographic research I published 5 peer-reviewed articles on carbon cycling in the Arctic, Equatorial Pacific and Southern Oceans which helped define the baseline for much of today’s research on global climate change in the oceans. This work has been cited in over 550 scientific publications to date.
